Wed, 14 May 2025 Meet Andrea Doe — SSTL’s Head of Facilities, who joined the company in 2012, but whose story begins well before that. Back in 1985 — the year SSTL was founded — Andrea was still at school; with no idea she’d one day be working at a company building satellites for space. “If you’d told me back then I’d end up at a space company, I’d have laughed! I first trained to be a hairdresser — but looking back, that gave me great people skills I still use today.”

From a Youth Training Scheme salon floor, Andrea’s career took a bold turn when she retrained in Computing & Software Engineering, climbing the ranks to Head of IT in the NHS. After 17 years, she moved to Barclays, supporting campus sites across the UK and Europe — before finding her home at SSTL. Since 2012, Andrea has played a vital behind-the-scenes role — first in IT Service Delivery, and since 2018, leading our Facilities team with trademark calm, care and know-how.
