The visit by Tiffany Kitchmar (Director Defence & Space, Department for Trade & Investment) follows the meeting in September 2022 between the Rt. Hon Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP (UK Secretary of State for Trade) and Senator The Hon Don Farrell (Australian Minister For Trade & Tourism) during which they discussed ways of strengthening the United Kingdom - Australia economic trade partnership. The decision by UK Company SSTL to open an office in South Australia was cited as a strong example of that burgeoning partnership.
As the pioneer of the small satellite industry, SSTL designs and manufactures payloads, subsystems and equipment in-house and have supported over twenty countries around the world in developing their Space capability. SSTL aims to collaborate with the Australian Space industry by sharing knowledge, intellectual property and experience to stimulate local growth and competitiveness.
SSTL is part of the Airbus Group and SSTL’s expansion into Australia demonstrates Airbus’ commitment to further enhancing the sovereign Space capability and expertise of the Australian Space sector. In September of last year SSTL announced their intention to open the Australia office (pictured below) and are delighted now to have welcomed their first visitor.
Clive Oates, SSTL Head of Five Eyes Nations said, “I was delighted to welcome Tiffany as our first visitor here at Lot Fourteen. Along with her colleagues in the Trade & Investment Department she has been a key supporter of our decision to open our office in Adelaide. And I know she will be looking on keenly as we go from strength to strength.”
Lot Fourteen, Adelaide, South Australia is a global innovation precinct - focused on entrepreneurship, research and education. The home of the Australian Space Agency and an expanding cluster of Space companies, Lot Fourteen aims to grow Space technology jobs and the Australian economy.
