Wed, 29 Jan 2025 In 1985, a young Alex Da Silva was a dedicated teenager studying for his A-Levels while SSTL was just being formed. What he didn't realise was he would soon form an integral part of the SSTL story, embarking on a career that has spanned nearly 35 years. Alex graduated from the University of Surrey and joined SSTL in the late 1980's, becoming a part of the team during the early days of the company's revolutionary contributions to small satellite innovation.

Among his early projects, Alex played a pivotal role in firstly UoSat-3 and 4 and then HealthSAT, KitSat-1, TMSAT, PicoSat-1 and FORMOSAT-7 amongst others –  missions that laid the foundation for SSTL's success as a global leader in satellite technology. Throughout the decades, Alex has exemplified versatility and dedication, taking on multiple senior roles at SSTL, including his current position in the Business Development team as small satellite expert and Global Brand Ambassador.

Reflecting on his journey, Alex shares, “When I joined SSTL in the late ‘80s, I couldn’t have imagined the incredible journey ahead. Working on UoSat-3 and 4 was just the beginning, and those early days gave me a deep appreciation for innovation and teamwork. I can’t believe the past 30+ years have gone by so quickly!” Today, Alex works closely with many of our key customers and represents SSTL’s values and heritage on the global stage. As we celebrate 40 years of SSTL, Alex’s transformation from an aspiring student in 1985 to a seasoned expert and ambassador stands as an inspiring reminder of what’s possible when talent meets opportunity.
