SSTL at the UK Space Conference 2025

SSTL at the UK Space Conference 2025
The SSTL team were out in force at this year’s UK Space Conference — a key gathering of the UK’s space sector, held this week in Manchester. With the theme of "Space for Growth", the conference brought together policymakers, agencies, academia and industry to explore how space technology is contributing to national ambitions in science, security, climate, and growth.

A highlight for us was seeing Sir Martin Sweeting (main pic) on stage as part of the panel discussion “Why are Small Satellite Science Missions Important to Growth?” where he made the case for how low-cost, rapid-response missions can deliver meaningful science and sovereign capability — especially when aligned to national strategic goals.

Elsewhere, Andrew Cawthorne represented SSTL in a photo opportunity with the UK Moonlight team, standing alongside partners from ViaSat, MDA, the UK Space Agency, and ESA Director General Josef Aschbacher. The Moonlight programme, which aims to build a constellation of lunar communications and navigation satellites, continues to demonstrate the UK’s ability to lead on visionary, high-impact space infrastructure.

And back on the exhibition floor, our SSTL stand was a hive of activity, with colleagues meeting potential customers, old friends, and new collaborators across three packed days of networking and discussion. It was great to see such strong interest in our missions, capabilities, and heritage — and to hear how small satellite technology continues to shape conversations around resilience, agility, and innovation in space.

We’d like to thank the organisers, partners, and visitors for making this year’s event such a success — and for continuing to champion the UK’s world-leading space ecosystem.
